Monday 12th
Maths
Today in maths we are consolidating our maths work, we are looking at multiplication problems. Look at the sheet below and using the long multiplication method see if you can work out the problems.
English
Today we will be looking at using speech punctuation accurately. It is important to remember the 4 rules of speech punctuation:
Have a go at correctly punctuating and changing these sentences so they make sense:
If you are confident with these, see if you can punctuate this paragraph correctly. Remember to use the rules of speech to help you.
Where do you think you're going bellowed the purple-faced teacher. I'm going to look for my coat the girl responded nervously. I think I left it in the playground. Well hurry up! the teacher yelled. Otherwise you'll be getting a detention. I'm sorry miss the girl whimpered, before sprinting out into the playground. Don't run! the teacher called after her.
Tuesday 13th
Maths
Today we are taking our first look at short division, it is a method you will have seen before but we wanted to have a little practice today before we moved on to the trickier and new method of long division.
Below is a little pack with problems for you to have a go at.
English
Today we are going to plan our story in class, thinking about tension and how we can incorporate that.
In class we have had a look at the story below and magpie the ideas and concept, we would like you to think about what your story will include. It needs a setting that seems scary but can be explained when our tension is released. Previously we have used the school at night time, with scary noises that turn out to be a cat or a teacher working late.
Once you have come up with your setting can you create an ideas web, with your setting name in the middle and all your ideas of how to describe it around the outside, this will be useful tomorrow. Can you also do this for your main character.
Topic
Today we are going to be looking at the life cycles of animals that we might find in our local habitats. So you challenge today is to research and draw a complete life cycle of an animal of your choice. You might choose a butterfly or a frog or a bird. Something that lives in Britain and you can find around us.
Wednesday 14th October
Maths
Today we are looking at the short division, how we can divide by single digit numbers. Below are a couple of sheets to help you practice your method and a third sheet with some problems on. You don't need to do all of them, if you remember the method well, skip on to the problems, if you want to practice your method a bit more stay with the first two sheets.
English
We are going to have a little more practice with using inverted commas this morning so using the sheet below can you have a look at the sentences provided and using the rules at the top of the sheet copy out 6 correctly punctuated sentences.
Topic
We are having discussions in school around the different relationships know of and what behaviours are appropriate and not. We are going to look at the different ages at which people can legally do certain things.
Use this time to make sure your homework books and reading homework up to date and have a practice of your spellings on Spelling Shed
Thursday 15th October
Maths
Following on from our short division work yesterday we are going to have a bit more practice. Have a look at the document below and have a go at the problems on there. We have also put the different problem cards from yesterday up again as I expect you won't have had time to get through them all.
Below is a link to the video section of the website where you can see the method being used if you are finding it tricky.

Short division is really reliant on you having really good timestables so practicing on ttrockstars would be a really good use of your time.
English
In English we have planned and thought a lot about our tension story. You have thought about your character, setting and the tense/scary event (but really not scary when they find out) that will happen in your story.
Over today and tomorrow we would like you to write your story, remember:
Opening: Describe your character and what they are scared of (and why)
Build Up: Get them to the place where they are going to get scared
Problem: The tense and scary thing happens, they face their fear they worry and we pack in all our tension features.
Resolution: The scary thing shows itself and it isn't scary.
Ending: The character overcomes their fear.
Tension features we want to see:
Personification of weather, empty words, sense, 2 pair or name - adjective pair - sentences, short sentences.
When you finish these tomorrow have a look at them carefully and edit them and then send them or bring them in we want to see them.

Science
We come to the conclusion of our science topic today - classifying animals. So we were going to have some fun. We will spend the lesson looking at some different flanimals, I have attached some pictures below, they are weird and wonderful creations that come in all shapes and sizes. We are going to design our own today, but with our scientific heads on we are going to classify our creations into one of the categories we have looked at over the past few weeks. So you can come up with a creature that looks a interesting and different as you like but it must fit in the group of vertebrate (backbone) or invertebrate and then fit into a group within those.
Make sure you show us your creations, we will make a display of them to bring them/send them in.
Friday 16th October
English
Today's task is to finish the English we had set for yesterday.
In English we have planned and thought a lot about our tension story. You have thought about your character, setting and the tense/scary event (but really not scary when they find out) that will happen in your story.
Over today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) we would like you to write your story, remember:
Opening: Describe your character and what they are scared of (and why)
Build Up: Get them to the place where they are going to get scared
Problem: The tense and scary thing happens, they face their fear they worry and we pack in all our tension features.
Resolution: The scary thing shows itself and it isn't scary.
Ending: The character overcomes their fear.
Tension features we want to see:
Personification of weather, empty words, sense, 2 pair or name - adjective pair - sentences, short sentences.
When you finish these tomorrow have a look at them carefully and edit them and then send them or bring them in we want to see them.
Maths
Today we were going to start having a look at long division. This is one of the trickier bits of maths, because it has so many steps, but if your times tables are good then you should be able to follow along.
You can practice your times tables with your log in on ttrockstars.
Click here to find the link to a video showing long division and the method for it. It is a complicated one so might be worth watching it a couple of times. Below is a sheet to have a go at to practice your new skill.
Art
We were looking at John Constable this week, his style, design and choice of colours. He was a very realistic artist, looking to recreate what was in front to him. There are a few of his most famous pieces below. With the things you have at home can you have a go at creating a landscape in his style.
