Elm

Welcome to Elm Class 2015/2016

We are pupils in Years 1 and 2.

Our teachers are Mrs Wintrip and Miss Vale.

Miss Guildford is our teaching assistant.

Homework

In Elm Class we aim to read daily, which may include practising high frequency words, tricky words and phonics. Also, we need to regularly practise our number bonds and our 2, 5 and 10 times table (and our 3 times table if we are in Year 2).

Additional support may be offered by your class teacher for individual pupils. Please see our separate homework document below for further suggestions.

Homework should take approximately 20 minutes per week. Please speak to your class teacher if you have any concerns.

Computing

We have been busy in Computing learning how to program BeeBots. We have also learnt what an algorithm is. We enjoyed debugging our programs if they went wrong!

English

On Wednesdays we learn about Poetry. We learn poems to perform on the 'Poetry Podium'.

Here we are performing our innovated poems using the poem 'Autumn Leaves'.

We have been talking about the seasons and the changes that happen in autumn. Then we went onto the field and played with the crunchy, brown leaves.

The Birmingham Royal Ballet

We went to Queen's College on Thursday 15th October to take part in a ballet workshop. We really enjoyed learning all about the different ballet movements and positions. Take a look at our photos and videos of us trying out the movements we learnt!

Planting Bulbs

Today we learnt about life in the home in Victorian times and how it is different from life in the home today.

We loved watching Spellbinder and joining in with the songs and actions.

SUPERHEROES

We had so much fun dressing up as our favourite super heroes for Children in Need!

We enjoyed a Victorian Christmas today and made crackers and a cornucopia as well as playing parlour games.

As part of our topic work we have learnt what materials were used to make toys in the past.

We have been rocking and rolling in PE.

We looked at the work of Barbara Hepworth and then had a go at creating our own sculptures.

Today we planted two varieties of potato as part of the Potato Council's potato growing competition. We will let you know how we get on.

We went on a walk today and saw lots of signs of Spring.

We had an amazing visit from the theatre company The Untied Artists who performed The Boy who bit Picasso.

We all took part in The Race for Life today!

After completing the running course we all received a medal for our fantastic efforts!

What a brilliant way to raise money for a such a special charity!

Race for Life!

We have created some 3D flowers

The Year 2s have worked so hard this week and have completed their SATs! They had an ice-pole to celebrate! Well done smiley
