Willow

Welcome to Willow Class!

We are Willow Class and we are Year 5!

Our teachers are Mrs Bowler and Mr Davis.

Many other people help us to learn too – Mrs Andrews, Mrs Gear and Miss Guildford.

Important Information:

We have double PE every Tuesday. We will come to school in our PE kit on this day every week. Our morning P. E sessions will be led by Mrs Bowler and our afternoon P. E sessions will be led by Mrs Mitchell. As there are more opportunities to take part in House sports competitions, there may be other days when your child needs to bring in a sports kit.

Please bring your reading book and reading bookmark to school each day.

We will be having our Outdoor Education sessions every Friday with Miss Guildford throughout Autumn Term 1. You will need to bring a named bag with welly boots/old trainers, waterproof trousers and a waterproof coat.

Online Learning:

Wednesday 24th & Thursday 25th June

English – We have been learning about how to write a newspaper report. Your challenge for the rest of this week is to write a report about schools making the decision to close because of the heatwave!

You could visit the BBC Newsround website for inspiration: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/articles/cly7qgl26x5o

Use the following document to help you structure your report:

Spellings - Play games with this week's spelling list https://www.edshed.com/en-gb/login

Maths - Next week, we are going to be learning about 'converting units', so you can get a head start with this if you would like to look at the following activities using 'Kilograms & Kilometres' and 'Millimetres & Millilitres'.

Check you are up-to-date with your homework on https://www.mymaths.co.uk/.   There are also a variety of maths games on the Mymaths website for you to enjoy!

History – If you would like to, you could explore our history topic about the Victorian Era.  You could have a look at websites including https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zkb6fdm   and https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/history/general-history/victorian-facts/

You could build on our last history lesson and learn more about Queen Victoria or you might begin to research what life was like for children during the Victorian Era!

Homework:

  • Daily reading - write on your bookmark every day to keep a record of your reading.
  • Spelling folder - written practice of spellings. *Please return folders to school each Monday.
  • Spelling Shed - games to learn and practice spellings online each week *at least once a week. The Year 5's know that they have the option to do an extra spelling activity on paper if they cannot go onto Spelling Shed for some reason.
  • Mymaths - a maths activity will be set every Friday and must be completed by the following Friday. These activities will be linked to our maths lessons.
